Interview – Mark Taksa

Please tell us a bit about yourself.

One parent was insane and the other I did not meet until I was in my twenties. For much of my youth, I lived in institutions for children with dysfunctional families. As a result, I felt isolated from what we wards of the state called the world of the “outsiders.” I write, in part, to get find a place in the everyday world.

When you create, what inspires you?

I like to play with rhythms, images, themes, contradictions, and the sound of words.

Tell us about the specific inspiration behind one or each of your accepted piece.

“Mother Flowers” comes from my mother abandoning me at a merry-go-round.
