Please tell us a bit about yourself.

I live in Atlanta, Ga but i was born in NJ. I am a Gemini, I collect all sorts of things and i love cats!

When you create, what inspires you?

Emotions, cute things, dark things, dreams and my imagination.

Tell us about the specific inspiration behind one or each of your accepted pieces.

“SleepingGirl” was created, like most of my art; just by starting something and seeing where it goes. I typically  don’t have a plan for anything when i draw. I have the tendency to draw girls though and she just appeared from my pencil! She is emotion heavy as you can tell by her face and full in thought. A lot of my art can come off as dark and showing a lot of emotion. Its not intentional. I’ve dealt with depression all of my life so it just comes off naturally that way.

What is your medium of choice? Why?

I have always drawn, so pens and pencils are my  favorite medium. I have painted in the past but drawing comes more naturally. As an artist though i like to do other things like sculpture, mixed media, assemblages. I like to write, I make music and sing and I take pictures!  In the past year and a half i’ve started playing around with digital art apps and have created some nice things! The options are endless.

How did you first discover your love for creating?

I was drawing on the walls since i was a baby! No joke! My mom is an artist and i was lucky enough to be blessed with a talent such as this. I grew up around her creativity and it just was the path that i would naturally follow. Besides that, the first thing i ever wanted to be as a kid was to be a writer. Which years later, I would accomplish in the way of publishing zines.

What advice would you give to an aspiring visual artist?

Never give up! Art, writing, music.. they are all a hard to do and not everyone sees what you see. I get discouraged from time to time because i’m not exactly where i wish i could be with my art but I never will stop creating. People like different things so always know that there is someone out there that supports you and likes what you are doing!

If you weren’t creating art about love, what would be your topic of choice?

Depression. I’m all about mental health awareness and letting people understand that it is nothing to be ashamed of.

fēlan is old English for feel. What makes you feel love?

Comfort, truth, the deep feelings of being secure and safe with someone or something that feels the same.

Please feel free to add anything else you think is relevant.

Another way of expressing myself is through making music. Singing has been something i’ve always done too. I can play guitar and bass. I had a solo project under the name Ethelscull in the 90s and self released  three cds of what i called ” lofi experimental mood music”. Currently I have a project under the name of Saint Felony and you can give it a listen over on Soundcloud!!  https://soundcloud.com/burnblack
